Comedian Katt Williams was arrested for breaking into a home and stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and coins. Williams is charged with burglary and criminal trespassing. A Coweta County magistrate set bond at US$41,150 (S$57,150) on Monday afternoon.

As Williams emerged from the Coweta County Jail, he called the alleged burglary ‘a misunderstanding between me and two stupid detectives.’ The incident happened at a home in Newnan, about 38 miles (61 kilometers) southwest of Atlanta. An employee who works at the estate where the comedian is staying called police around 9 pm to report a break-in at a guesthouse on the property. Williams had a crowbar when he entered and is accused of taking US$3,555 in jewelry and collectable coins. This arrest comes a year after Williams was arrested in New York City on weapons charges on November 5, 2008. NYPD officers pulled him over for driving a car without license plates. Upon searching the car, police discovered a gun and proceeded to arrest Williams. Williams was in New York for his debut performance at Carnegie Hall, which was scheduled for November 6. The following week, the comedian allegedly underwent a mental health evaluation for possible hospital commitment after run-ins with city and county officials in Sumter, South Carolina.
Three years to the date, Williams was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on November 6, 2006, after authorities found a gun in his briefcase. He pleaded no contest to one misdemeanour count of carrying a concealed firearm and received three years’ probation.
