Family and friends mourned the death of Army Staff Sergeant Daniel Merriweather, a Memphis soldier killed in Afghanistan. Merriweather, 25, who lived with his wife, Rachelle, near Fort Bragg, N.C., last saw his family in October when he returned home for two weeks for the birth of his second son. Merriweather graduated from Overton High School. This was his third tour of duty.

Merriweather was on patrol with a military police company 10 days ago, died when the Humvee in which he was riding triggered a roadside bomb near Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Merriweather was genuinely patriotic, joining the Army two days before graduating. He is the 13th soldier from the Memphis area to be killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since the conflicts began. After the funeral service, a funeral procession made its way to West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, where Merriweather was honored with a 21-gun salute.

  1. Happy to experience that there are blog owners that worry about their blogs and not release all kind of unuseable stuff but rather try to maintain it perfect and priceless for the sake of their subscribers. You’ve done a good job and i thank you for that and as well for not traumatizing me with useless garbage and spam.Thank You
