A state grand jury has indicted 12 Memphis business owners for sales tax fraud, Shelby County DA Bill Gibbons announced Thursday. The business owners are accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from taxpayers. The indictments are the result of a four month investigation by the Department of Revenues Special Investigations Section. The majority of the 12 defendants face charges of theft of property over $10,000. All of the defendants face sales tax fraud charges. Some of the defendants were indicted for as many as 25 counts of sales tax fraud.
