Monday afternoon Sheen stood on top of the Live Nation building in Hollywood wielding a machete and drinking red liquid from a bottle labeled “tiger’s blood.” Natalie Kenly, one of his goddesses, was right by his side. When asked by reporters how he felt about the network’s decision to terminate him, Sheen replied “Free at last, free at last!”

A Colombian soccer team’s mascot owl died after being kicked by a rival player. The bird landed on the field with an apparent broken wing during Sunday’s game between Barranquilla’s Atletico Junior and Deportivo Pereira. The visitors’ Panamanian striker Luis Moreno kicked the owl off the field, provoking a furious reaction from the Baranquilla crowd, who considered the bird to be a good luck charm.

On Jan. 1, 2011, 19 new laws become effective in Tennessee. The list includes: consumer protection, TennCare, workers compensation, pharmacy, professions and occupations, guardianship, safety, bail bonds, DUI/DWI offenses, contractors, insurance, traffic safety, unemployment compensation, education, immigrants and criminal offenses.

Below is a complete list of the new laws. Public Chapters with 01/01/11 Effective Date

684 SB2501 Consumer Protection – As enacted, creates Class A misdemeanor, punishable by fine only, of intentionally concealing or misrepresenting the telephone number utilized by ADAD equipment; provides certainexceptions. – Amends TCA Title 47, Chapter 18, Part 15.

776 SB3087 TennCare – As enacted, revises provisions governing state’s subrogation interests. – Amends TCA Title 71, Chapter 5, Part 1.

792 SB3162 Workers Compensation – As enacted, revises provisions governing rental and assignment of network rights to expand the information required to be included in an explanation of benefits sent to medical provider and gives the provisions the short title the “Rental and Assignment of PPO Network Rights”. – Amends TCA Title 50, Chapter 6, Part 2.

Tiger Woods has once again ended a calendar year as golf’s top earner, despite suffering a pay cut of $48 million and failing to win a single tournament. The world’s number two golfer topped Golf Digest magazine’s annual list for 2010 with overall earnings of $74.2 million.Of that, only $2.29 million came from tournament purses with the rest accumulated off-course through endorsements and appearance fees. Phil Mickelson was second with total earnings of $40.18 million, followed by Arnold Palmer ($36 million), Greg Norman fourth ($30 million) and Jack Nicklaus fifth ($25.17 million). Jim Furyk, who collected a $10 million bonus for winning the PGA Tour’s season-long FedExCup in September, was sixth on $23.58 million.

One of the most dreaded waits in the city is the emission testing for vehicles. This morning I had to face the wait. First I get there an hour early and wait till the bay door open then, a four car position that had me next in line.  While waiting I noticed the driver of one of the cars being tested, get out and the tech did something to the vehicle. I said to myself, that driver must have forgotten his controls, you know, lights on/off, wiper on/off that stuff. Well, when I get under the radar I do the lights on/off, brake on then gas, when the tech asked me to step out the vehicle so he could start the On-Board Diagnostics, or OBD.

I said, uh? The tech hooked a terminal to my truck and wha-la, emissions done. WDF! On-Board Diagnostics is a generic term referring to a vehicle’s self-diagnostic and reporting capability. OBD systems give the vehicle owner or a repair technician access to state of health information for various vehicle sub-systems. (more…)
